NBA: New Jersey 92, Indiana 86

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., May 2 (UPI) -- Vince Carter had 34 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists Tuesday to lead New Jersey to a 92-86 win over Indiana in Game 5 of their NBA Eastern quarterfinal.

The Nets took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. They will have a chance to advance to the semifinals on Thursday, when the teams meet in Game Six.

Richard Jefferson added 24 points, Nenad Krstic 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Jason Kidd 15 assists for New Jersey.

Jermaine O'Neal scored 19 points for Indiana, which nearly pulled out the victory despite being without Peja Stojakovic (sore right knee), center Jeff Foster (sore back) and guard Jamaal Tinsley (sore right Achilles).
