LOS ANGELES, April 20 (UPI) -- The Chicago Cubs have lost slugger Derrek Lee for up to six weeks because of a fractured right hand, the team announced in Los Angeles Thursday.

"I'm sure he's devastated today because he's a total team guy who's integral to what we want to accomplish," said Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry on the team's Web site.

Hendry added that Lee had flown back to Chicago to be examined by the team's medical staff and a hand specialist.

In 2005, Lee had a career year, batting .335 with 46 home runs and 107 RBI, and played in his first All-Star Game.

So far this season, he was hitting .318 in 14 games with three homers and 10 RBIs. He signed a five-year $65 million deal on April 11.
