Federer, Blake win at Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., March 18 (UPI) -- Roger Federer and James Blake won their semifinal matches Saturday at the Pacific Life Open tennis tournament at Indian Wells, Calif.

Federer, the top seed and No. 1 in the latest world rankings, beat Paradorn Srichaphan of Thailand, 6-2, 6-3. Blake, who is the No. 12 seed, surprised second-seeded Rafael Nadal of Spain, 7-5, 6-3.

Federer extended his winning streak at Indian Wells to 17 straight matches and faces an opponent he hasn't lost a set to in his career.

He is 2-0 against Blake, last beating him at the 2005 at Tennis Masters Series in Cincinnati in 2005. He also topped Blake in 2003 at the U.S. Open.

Both players have two titles this year. Sunday's winner will earn a paycheck of $455,000.

With the loss, Nadal had his 10-match winning streak snapped.
