Roddick, Murray win at Memphis

MEMPHIS, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Andy Roddick Wednesday night edged Wayne Arthurs in the second round of the Regions Morgan Keegan Tennis Championships at Memphis.

The scores in te tense struggle were 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-2). Roddick saved off a match point while trailing 9-8 in the second tie-break and withstood 33 aces from Arthurs.

Also, sixth-seeded Tommy Haas beat Justin Gimelstob when the loser retired with a lower back problem, trailing 2-1 in the first set; Andy Murray edged Rainer Schuettler, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2; Paul Goldstein ousted Scoville Jenkins, 6-4, 6-3; Vincent Spadea beat Bobby Reynolds 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2); and Rik de Voest beat Jonas Bjorkman, 6-4, 6-3. De Voest got in when second-seeded Nicolas Kiefer withdrew because of a sinus infection.
