NHL: Atlanta 7, Detroit 6

ATLANTA, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Patrik Stefan scored the winning goal with 4:11 to play Tuesday as the Atlanta Thrashers held off a comeback to defeat the Detroit Red Wings, 7-6.

Stefan scored two goals, Vyacheslav Kozlov had a goal and two assists and Bobby Holik and Jean-Pierre Vigier each had a goal and an assist for the Thrashers, who have won two of their last three games. Michael Garnett made 30 saves in the win.

Brendan Shanahan, playing in his 1,300th career NHL game, had a goal and four assists and Pavel Datsyuk two goals and an assist for the Red Wings, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. James Howard started in net but was pulled after allowing three goals on 16 shots. Chris Osgood relieved him in the second and let in four goals on 16 shots.

The Thrashers had a 6-2 lead going into the last period, but Detroit scored four goals in less than nine minutes to tie the game.
