Montgomerie wins Hong Kong Open

HONG KONG, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Colin Montgomerie won the Hong Kong Open Sunday when James Kingston double bogeyed the final hole.

Kingston, a South African seeking his first European Tour victory, needed only a par to beat Montgomerie but hit into the trees off the 18th tee and wound up with a double-bogey six.

It was similar to last year's finish, when Kingston's drive on 18 landed next to a fence, leading to a win for Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Montgomerie's 70 for a 9-under-par 271 gave him a final one-shot margin over Kingston and four other players. It was Montgomerie's 30th European Tour title.

The double-bogey left Kingston with a one-over 71 for his final round and an 8-under 272 -- good for a share of second place with K.J. Choi (69), Keng-Chi Lin (69), Edward Loar (69) and Thammanoon Srirot (68).
