Yanks' Rodriguez named AL MVP

NEW YORK, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- New York Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been voted his second American League Most Valuable Player Award.

Rodriguez, 30, won for the second time in three years, the Baseball Writer Association of America announced Monday. Rodriguez was named first on 16 of the 28 ballots and totaled 331 points.

Boston designated hitter David Ortiz, who was first on 11 ballots and had 307 total points, was the runner-up. Vladimir Guerrero, of the Los Angeles Angels and who won the MVP Award last year, was third.

Rodriguez led the American League with 48 homes runs and was second with a .321 batting average. His 130 RBI ranked fourth in the league.
