ATLANTA, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Carl Edwards won Sunday's Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.
His No. 99 Ford crossed the finish line 2.712 seconds ahead of Jeff Gordon. Edwards celebrated the win with his patented winning back flip. The victory was his third of the season.
Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Matt Kenseth completed the top-five -- with Jamie McMurray, Greg Biffle, Jeff Burton, Tony Stewart and Elliot Sadler ending in spots 6-10.
"This is unbelievable," said Edwards, who moved to within 107 points of the lead held by Stewart.
"I'm so proud of this team, we're coming," said Gordon after a win and a second place the last two weeks. "Carl drove a great race, he's a heck of a race car driver."
After seven of 10 events in NASCAR's "Chase for the Nextel Cup," Stewart holds a 43-point lead over Johnson.
The next race is scheduled for Nov. 6 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Justin, Texas.
