NFL: Washington 52, San Francisco 17

WASHINGTON, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Mark Brunell passed for 252 yards and three touchdowns Sunday as the Washington Redskins wasted San Francisco, 52-17.

The 52 points were the most for Washington since a 56-17 win over Atlanta on Jan. 10, 1991.

Running back Clinton Portis rushed for 101 yards on 19 attempts and three touchdowns. It was the first time Portis crossed the goal line this season.

Ladell Betts added 92 yards on 12 carries, and wide receiver Santana Moss had five catches for 112 yards and one touchdown.

Brunell was 13-of-20 with no interceptions. He was sacked once. The Redskins broke a two-game slide to improve to 4-2.

For the 49ers (1-5), rookie quarterback Alex Smith was 8-of-16 for 92 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Running back Frank Gore ran for 89 yards and a touchdown, and Kevan Barlow added 54 yards and one score.
