MLB: LA Angels 5, NY Yankees 3

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Ervin Santana pitched 5 1/3 strong innings in relief of injured Bartolo Colon Monday as the LA Angels beat the Yankees, 5-3, to win the AL Division Series.

Garret Anderson and Adam Kennedy each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Angels of Anaheim in the deciding Game 5.

Santana, a rookie this season, took over for Colon, who left in the top of the second inning with inflammation in his right shoulder. He allowed three runs and five hits to help the Angels eliminate the Yankees in the ALDS for the second time in four years.

Los Angeles will now fly to Chicago to meet the AL Central-champion White Sox in Tuesday's Game 1 of the best-of-seven AL Championship Series.

The Yankees scored two runs off the young righthander in the top of the second, but a solo home run by Anderson in the bottom of the inning and a two-RBI double by Kennedy off Mike Mussina later in the inning put the Angels in front.
