MLB: Detroit 10, Seattle 7

DETROIT, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Chris Shelton homered and had three RBI runs Wednesday night as the Detroit Tigers beat the Seattle Mariners, 10-7.

Placido Polanco had two RBI and Magglio Ordonez scored twice for the Tigers, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

Winning pitcher Mike Maroth (9-11) yielded five runs and seven hits in six-plus innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Fernando Rodney recorded his first major league save.

Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer and had four RBI for Seattle, which has lost 10 of 15. Mike Morse had two RBI and Willie Bloomquist had three hits and scored three runs.

Loser Gil Meche (10-8) surrendered eight runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
