MLB: NY Yankees 11, Texas 10

ARLINGTON, Texas, July 19 (UPI) -- The New York Yankees reclaimed first place in the American League East, downing the Texas Rangers 11-10 in Arlington.

With the Yankees trailing 10-9 in the eighth, Ruben Sierra hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the eighth inning.

Tanyon Sturtze (3-1) picked up the victory with 2 1/3 perfect innings of relief in a game started by Kevin Brown, who was newly activated from the disabled list.

Gary Sheffield, Jorge Posada and Hideki Matsui each homered for the Yankees. Sierra, Sheffield, Matsui and rookie second baseman Robinson Cano had two hits apiece, while Rodriguez scored three runs.

Alfonso Soriano and Rod Barajas each homered for Texas. Soriano had four hits, while Mark Teixeira and David Dellucci each had two in a game that saw 25 combined hits.
