Davenport rallies at French Open

PARIS, May 25 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Lindsay Davenport, two points away from elimination, fought back Wednesday to reach the third round of the French Open.

On the men's side, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal moved closer to a semifinal showdown while Tim Henman was knocked out of the tournament.

Davenport trailed in a second-set tiebreaker to China's Shuai Peng, 5-4, but came back to pull out a 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory. Davenport is seeking her first French Open title.

Also advancing to the third round were Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters and 2004 runner-up Elena Dementieva.

Federer and Nadal have been the two biggest winners in men's tennis this year and they both coasted into the third round.

Federer, ranked No. 1 in the world, defeated Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2.

Nadal, seeded fourth, won his 19th straight match with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 decision over Xavier Malisse. Henman fell to Luis Horna 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 6-3, 6-4.
