Els leads weather-delayed Asia Open by 8

SHANGHAI, May 1 (UPI) -- The BMW Asian Open was delayed by lightning and suspended during the final round Sunday with Ernie Els leading by eight shots.

Els was at 22-under-par through six holes before play ended because of darkness. Twenty-three other players also failed to finish the last round.

Simon Wakefield, playing with Els, held second place at 14-under. Thoms Bjorn was in third at 12-under. Bjorn had completed seven holes in the round.

Thunderstorms with the threat of lightning at the Tomson Shangai Pudong Club caused a delay of more than three hours during the day.
