NEW YORK, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig Monday approved a trade that would send five-time Cy Young Award winner Randy Johnson from Arizona to the New York Yankees.

The Yankees have a 72-hour window, running Tuesday to Friday, to sign Johnson to a multi-year contract extension for the deal to become official.

The Yankees would receive Johnson in exchange for pitcher Javier Vazquez, catching prospect Dioner Navarro, pitching prospect Brad Halsey and approximately $9 million.

The Yankees are reportedly in negotiations to sign Johnson to a two-year contract extension worth about $32 million. Johnson has to waive his no-trade clause for the deal to become official.
