Browns sideline Jeff Garcia for season

BEREA, Ohio, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns Monday placed quarterback Jeff Garcia on the season-ending injured reserve list.

Garcia suffered a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee in Sunday's 37-7 loss at Buffalo.

Team doctors say the injury will not require surgery but that Garcia would not have been able to play again for nearly eight weeks. He had missed the previous two games because of a shoulder injury, and had replaced an ineffective Luke McCown.

Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection while with the San Francisco 49ers, signed a four-year free agent contract with Cleveland in March. He completed 144 of 252 passes for 1,731 yards with 10 touchdown passes and nine interceptions this season.

Interim coach Terry Robiskie is in a quandary for next week's game at Cincinnati. Kelly Holcomb continues to be plagued by rib problems, meaning the Browns (3-10), who have lost seven games in a row, may promote Nate Hybl from the practice squad.
