Roddick is 2-0 in the Blue Group while Safin dropped to 1-1. Tim Henman remained alive in his quest for a spot in the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Guillermo Coria.

Safin, who beat Coria earlier in the round-robin phase, will face Henman with the winner of that match moving on to the semifinals.

Roger Federer has already clinched one of the semifinal spots from the Red Group. The last semifinal spot will go to either Carlos Moya or Lleyton Hewitt.

Safin survived three set points in the first-set tiebreak. Roddick did the same thing in the 12th game of the second set to force the tiebreak.
