Maddux wins 14th Gold Glove Award

NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Chicago Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux was given the 14th Gold Glove Award of his career Wednesday.

The honor came one year after his streak of 13 straight Gold Gloves had ended.

Maddux was edged for the 2003 award by Mike Hampton, but grabbed another one Wednesday to break his own record for National League pitchers. The overall record for pitchers is 16, owned by Jim Kaat.

Maddux committed one error in 77 chances this year.

Among those also winning a Gold Glove in the National League was Atlanta outfielder Andruw Jones (his seventh). Three Gold Gloves went to members of the St. Louis Cardinals -- catcher Mike Matheny, third baseman Scott Rolen and outfielder Jim Edmonds.
