MLB: Florida 9, NY Mets 7

NEW YORK, July 20 (UPI) -- Juan Pierre had four hits and scored three runs and Miguel Cabrera and Alex Gonzalez homered Tuesday as Florida downed the New York Mets, 9-7.

Florida's Nate Bump made his first major league start and allowed six runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Mike Cameron and Richard Hidalgo hit home runs for New York, which has dropped four of its last five.

Steve Trachsel started for the Mets and gave up seven runs on eight hits in five innings.

Mets slugger Mike Piazza left the game due to a sprained left wrist he suffered while catching a ball at first base. X-rays taken were negative and he will be reevaluated on Wednesday. Piazza is listed as day-to-day.

With the contest tied at 7-7, the Marlins moved ahead in the sixth. Mets reliever John Franco (2-6) walked Castillo and Mike Lowell before Dan Wheeler surrendered an RBI single to Cabrera.
