Federer returns home for Swiss Open

GSTAAD, Switzerland, July 5 (UPI) -- Roger Federer returns home from his second straight Wimbledon triumph as the top seed at the Swiss Open.

The claycourt event is a showcase for Federer, who defeated Andy Roddick in four sets Sunday to claim his second Grand Slam title of the season.

Federer has won 20 of his last 21 matches overall, also earning titles at the ATP Masters Hamburg and Halle.

The 22-year-old is appearing in the Swiss Alps for the seventh time, having made his professional debut here in 1998. He reached last year's final, losing to Czech Jiri Novak.

The fourth-seeded Novak was in action Monday, upending Jose Acasuso of Argentina, 6-3, 6-3.

Also Monday, Italian qualifier Potito Starace outlasted seventh seed David Sanchez of Spain, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, and eighth-seeded Spaniard Albert Costa, the 1996 and 1999 champ, bounced Czech Bohdan Ulihrach, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
