Federer, Moya advance in Hamburg

HAMBURG, Germany, May 13 (UPI) -- Roger Federer and Carlos Moya, 1-2 in the ATP Champions Race, set up a quarterfinal meeting Thursday with wins at the Masters Series Hamburg.

Federer, the top seed who holds a 77-point lead atop the standings, dispatched No. 13 Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, 7-5, 6-1, to improve to 30-3 this season.

Moya, the seventh seed, eliminated compatriot Fernando Verdasco, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, to improve to 10-0 against Spaniards this season.

Defending champion Guillermo Coria of Argentina also moved into the quarterfinals with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over No. 16 Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Coria, the second seed, improved to 14-0 on clay as he sets his sights on a third title this season. He will face Spain's David Ferrer, who rallied past 1998 champion Albert Costa, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, to reach a TMS quarterfinal for the first time.
