Iginla nominated for Hart Trophy

NEW YORK, April 21 (UPI) -- Jarome Iginla, who led Calgary to its first playoff appearance in eight years, was named Wednesday as a finalist for the NHL's Hart Trophy.

Iginla tied for the NHL lead with 41 goals and topped the Flames with 73 points. He helped the Flames finish sixth in the Western Conference for their first playoff appearance since 1996.

Martin Brodeur of New Jersey, who won his first career Vezina Trophy as the league's best goaltender last season, was nominated for the Hart Trophy for the second straight year.

Also in the running for the league's MVP award is winger Martin St. Louis of Tampa Bay.

The winners of each of the league's awards will be announced June 10.

Iginla's teammate Miikka Kiprusoff and Roberto Luongo of Florida are first-time finalists for the Vezina Trophy.

Chris Pronger of St. Louis, New Jersey's Scott Niedermayer and imposing Zdeno Chara of Ottawa arefinalists for the Norris Trophy, which goes to the league's best defenseman.
