NHL: Detroit 4, Nashville 1

DETROIT, April 15 (UPI) -- Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist and Curtis Joseph made 19 saves Thursday night as Detroit downed Nashville, 4-1.

Joseph was making his first start of the playoffs and he backstopped the Red Wings into a three games to two lead in the Western Conference quarterfinal series.

After staging third-period rallies for victories in the first two games, the Red Wings had trouble solving Tomas Vokoun in Nashville. The Predators' goaltender stopped 82 of 83 shots for the first two playoff wins in club history.

But Detroit had little difficulty getting to Vokoun in this one, opening a 2-0 lead before the Predators could register a shot.

Zetterberg got the Red Wings on the board 3:19 into the first period and Brett Hull doubled the lead just over three minutes later with his 102nd career playoff goal.

Brendan Shanahan scored while shorthanded later in the first and defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom added a power-play tally midway through the second to give Detroit a 4-0 cushion.
