Watson leads Senior Skins Game

WAILEA, Hawaii, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Tom Watson birdied the seventh hole to capture three skins and $70,000 Friday to take the lead midway through the Senior Skins Game.

Jack Nicklaus picked up $60,000 and Arnold Palmer had two skins and earned $50,000 while defending champion Lee Trevino was held skinless.

A two-time winner on the Champions Tour in 2003, Watson was 33rd in the 39-man field at last week's MasterCard Championship. But he played well here, posting birdies at five of the nine holes.

Watson made putts to halve the fifth and sixth holes before making a birdie at the seventh.

With three skins and $70,000 on the line at the par-5, Watson's second shot found a greenside bunker. But he chipped to within six feet and made the birdie putt.
