NHL: Atlanta 2, Tampa Bay 1

ATLANTA, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- J.P. Vigier redirected a point shot over the shoulder of John Grahame with 4:57 remaining Saturday as Atlanta posted a 2-1 victory over Tampa Bay.

With Atlanta on the power play, Patrik Stefan gained the offensive zone on the left side and dropped the puck back to Ilya Kovalchuk, who sent it toward the net. Vigier tipped the puck for his fourth goal.

The Thrashers scored a pair of third-period goals to erase a deficit and leap past Tampa Bay into first place in the Southeast Division.

While the season is just a quarter old, the Thrashers' success has been a surprise, considering they never have made the playoffs and had to deal with a preseason car crash that took the life of Dan Snyder and sidelined Dany Heatley.

Defenseman Dan Boyle scored for Tampa Bay, which is 0-2-2 following an 11-2-2-1 start.
