NHL: Phoenix 2, St. Louis 1

PHOENIX, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- David Tanabe scored with 21 seconds left in overtime Friday night, giving Phoenix a 2-1 victory over St. Louis in the season opener for both teams.

Tanabe beat St. Louis goaltender Chris Osgood with a wrister on the Coyotes' fourth shot of the extra period.

It was an unassisted goal while the other two scores in the game came on the power play.

Daymond Langkow put Phoenix in front in the first period and Keith Tkachuk tipped in a shot by Al MacInnis for St. Louis in the second.

St. Louis outshot Phoenix, 24-21.
