ST. ANDREWS, Scotland, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Britain's Lee Westwood shot a 5-under-par 67 Sunday and held off world No. 2 Ernie Els of South Africa to win the Dunhill Links Championship by a stroke.

Westwood finished at 21-under 267 for the 72-hole event held over three courses. He birdied five of six holes in the middle of his round and parred the last five in order to record his second victory in the last four weeks.

The 30-year-old Englishman, who went nearly two years without a top-10 finish, snapped a title drought of almost three years at the German Masters. He earned $800,000 Sunday.

Els fired a 64 for a total of 268 and France's Raphael Jacquelin shot a 69 for third place at 270. Tied for fourth were Maarten Lafeber of the Netherlands and Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland.
