Bobby Labonte wins NASCAR pole

BROOKLYN, Mich., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Bobby Labonte clocked a qualifying lap of 190.240 miles per hour Friday to win the pole for Sunday's NASCAR Winston Cup GFS Marketplace 400.

Labonte's lap came after rain delayed the start of qualifying for two hours.

It was Labonte's fourth pole of the season and 25th in his career. He also started from the inside of the front row this year at Las Vegas, Texas and the June race here.

Joining Labonte in the front row was Ryan Newman, who sped to a lap of 189.928 in his Dodge Intrepid. The second row will consist of Robby Gordon and Kevin Lepage, who turned in laps of 189.499 mph and 189.086 mph in a Chevrolet and Ford Taurus.

Winston Cup points leader Matt Kenseth had a lap of 186.727 mph in his Ford and will start in the 16th row.
