Arizona 5, Texas 4

SURPRISE, Ariz., March 11 (UPI) -- Robby Hammock's RBI single in the top of the eighth inning Tuesday lifted the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers.

After Michael Young scored on a groundout by Juan Gonzalez in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game, 4-4, neither team scored again until Hammock drove in Alex Cintron with a hit off Robert Ellis in the eighth.

Ron Villone, who got the final out in the seventh inning, earned the victory for Arizona.

Felix Jose went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored for Arizona. His solo home run against Rangers starter Doug Davis in the top of the third inning gave Randy Johnson a 4-0 advantage, but the reigning National League Cy Young winner surrendered one run in the bottom of the frame and two in the fourth.

Texas tied the game one inning later on Gonzalez's groundout.

Young, Gonzalez, Einar Diaz and Donnie Sadler drove in runs for Texas.
