Cincinnati 15, San Diego 10

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Russell Branyan homered three times and pinch-hitter Brandon Larson's two-run single off Trevor Hoffman snapped a tie in the ninth inning Sunday as the Cincinnati Reds produced a wild 15-10 victory over the San Diego Padres.

Branyan had his sixth career multi-homer game and second this season. His two-run homer in the second inning opened the scoring, he added a solo shot in the fourth and another two-run blast in the seventh that forged a 10-10 tie.

Hoffman (1-4) entered the game in the ninth and was greeted by a single by rookie Austin Kearns. Branyan walked on five pitches and Barry Larkin sacrificed but reached when Hoffman booted the ball for an error.

The Reds put on a squeeze play but Jason LaRue missed his bunt attempt and Kearns was tagged out by catcher Wil Nieves. LaRue walked to load the bases before Larson came through with a single on an 0-2 pitch to give the Reds the lead for good.

Hoffman gave way to Tom Davey, who was greeted by a three-run homer from Todd Walker, his seventh of the season.
