Moya reaches semifinals

SOPOT, Poland, July 26 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Carlos Moya escaped early trouble Friday to extend his winning streak to 13 matches and advance to the semifinals of the Idea Prokom Open.

Moya, who has won his last two claycourt tournaments since skipping Wimbledon, defeated first-time ATP quarterfinalist Stefano Galvani of Italy, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Russian Mikhail Youzhny, the seventh seed, was not able to escape the quarterfinals, falling to unseeded Attila Savolt of Hungary, 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 6-4. It was Savolt's second straight upset, having knocked off top-seeded Jiri Novak on Thursday.

The eighth seed, Jan Vacek of the Czech Republic, was also upset, losing to unseeded Argentine Jose Acacuso, 6-4, 6-2.

Unseeded Franco Squillari will join his countryman Acacuso in the semifinals after downing Christophe Rochus, 6-3, 6-4.

In the women's draw, Russian qualifier Dinara Safina, the younger sister of former ATP world No. 1 Marat Safin, made it through to her first WTA Tour singles final by defeating compatriot Vera Zvonareva, 6-3, 6-2. At 16 years, three months, Safina is trying to become the youngest player to win a tour title this year.

Meeting Safina in the final will be sixth-seeded Henrieta Nagyova of Slovakia, who beat Tathiana Garbin of Italy, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2). The 23-year-old, who won the inaugural Tour event in Sopot in 1998, blew four match points at 5-4 in the third set but managed to close out the match in the tiebreaker.
