A four-time Cy Young Award winner, Maddux has not lost in 15 starts since April 30. He was coming off an outing against Montreal in which he pitched five innings before leaving with a strained calf.

Maddux, who got some early help from his defense, also had an RBI single in the sixth inning that gave the Braves an 8-0 lead. With his 266th career win, he moved into a tie for 31st place with Bob Feller and Eppa Rixey.

Atlanta collected 16 hits as it posted its second straight shutout and turned a recent three-game losing streak into a distant memory. The Braves have won 35 of their last 46 games and became the first team to 60 wins.
