Montreal 5, Houston 4

HOUSTON, May 1 (UPI) -- In a battle between two of the top run producers in the National League, Vladimir Guerrero of the Montreal Expos enjoyed the edge over Lance Berkman of the Houston Astros Wednesday night.

Guerrero homered twice and had four RBI as the Expos posted their ninth win in 11 games, a 5-4 victory over the Astros.

Guerrero's solo shot in the fourth inning gave the Expos the game's first run. But Berkman belted his major league-leading 11th home run, a three-run shot off Tony Armas Jr., in the bottom of the sixth to put Houston in front, 3-1.

Berkman, who went 3-for-4, has 29 RBI this season.

Guerrero answered in the top of the seventh. Montreal was trailing 3-2 with two outs and runners on first and second when Guerrero hit his ninth homer of the season -- a blast over the center field wall off Octavio Dotel (0-1), restoring the Expos' advantage, 5-3.

In April, Montreal's All-Star right fielder batted .379 (39-for-103) with seven homers and a National League-leading 28 RBI. Guerrero also topped the senior circuit with 14 multi-hit games and 71 total bases.
