Detroit 3, Florida 2 (OT)

SUNRISE, Fla., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Brett Hull scored with 49 seconds left in overtime to cap a three-point game Wednesday night and give the Detroit Red Wings their fifth straight win, 3-2 over the Florida Panthers.

After setting up a pair of goals which knotted the score at 2-2, Hull tallied late in the extra session.

Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk skated around Florida center Olli Jokinen, then sent a cross-slot pass to Hull in the left circle, from where he one-timed it past a diving Roberto Luongo.

Detroit, which leads the NHL in goals scored with 193, earned its seventh win in eight games. The Panthers, who are second to last in the league with 186 goals against, dropped their fifth straight.

Luc Robitaille scored twice on the power play and defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom added a pair of assists for Detroit, which posted its second straight overtime victory. The Red Wings squeezed out a 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay on Tuesday night.

Luongo finished with 57 saves, bettering his career best by 11, and the Panthers set a new franchise record for shots allowed with 60.

Niklas Hagman and Valeri Bure had the goals for Florida, which is 1-9-2 in its last 12 contests.
