CAMP TURZII, Romania, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- U.S. airmen completed their final site assessment of a Romanian facility in preparation for the installation of an air navigation system.

U.S. airmen from Ramstein Air Base in Germany concluded a five-day site survey of Camp Turzii, Romania, in preparation for the installation of a tactical navigation system, the U.S. Air Force reports.

A two-man team from the 1st Communications Maintenance Squadron examined the site to make sure all procured materials were ordered and supported in preparation for the installation team, set to arrive in the summer of 2010.

U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Aaron Tibbits said the preparation work goes a long way toward strengthening air and ground forces, but diplomatic ties with Romania as well.

"I think having the Romanians see us here and work together will definitely help build a better bond," he said.

Tibbits said the Romanian facility will also feature training compounds modeled after similar sites in Iraq to provide soldiers with the battlefield knowledge necessary for combat missions.

"There is a lot of training that takes place out here," he said. "It will simulate more of a tactical and combat environment."
