GD gets SEWIP Block 1B support contract

FAIRFAX, Va., May 14 (UPI) -- General Dynamics has been contracted by the U.S. Navy to provide the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program Block 1B with production support.

U.S. company General Dynamics said its Advanced Information Systems unit received the Navy contract. Under the $39.9 million deal, General Dynamics will provide the SEWIP Block 1B with production support and also two engineering development models for the SEWIP Block 1B3.

SEWIP, the Navy's primary surface-ship electronic-warfare missile-defense system, is undergoing block upgrades to advance defense capabilities for naval vessels from potential threats.

"Our work on SEWIP is an example of General Dynamics leveraging its open-architecture expertise and commitment to an open business model," Michael Tweed-Kent, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems vice president and general manager of integrated combat systems, said in a statement.

"We will provide the Navy with the best industry solution and significantly improve the war fighter's capabilities."
