SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 21 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has contracted General Dynamics to develop a next-generation wearable ensemble with advanced situational-awareness capabilities.
U.S. company General Dynamics said its C4 Systems business unit was contracted by the Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command's Contracting Center. Under the $12 million deal, General Dynamics will support Project Manager Soldier Warrior requirements with the development of an information-systems ensemble.
The contract, one of three awarded by TACOM, is part of an effort to equip soldiers with an ensemble featuring "built-in equipment that allows Army team leaders to quickly access critical information about each other and their surroundings during a mission," according to a news release.
Officials said the tactical ensemble developed by General Dynamics will have to be compatible with size, weight and power-consumption requirements and include radio and digital communication technologies. General Dynamics said it will deliver 10 prototypes for evaluation by September.
