BioNeutral appoints bioterrorism expert

NEWARK, N.J., March 23 (UPI) -- BioNeutral Group Inc. has named a former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency bioterrorism expert as a lead homeland security and defense consultant.

U.S. company BioNeutral Group announced it has appointed Dorothy Canter, who was formerly the EPA's chief scientist for bioterrorism issues. Company officials said Canter will become the lead consultant for BioNeutral Group on issues concerning the departments of Homeland Security and Defense.

Canter, currently a Johns Hopkins University senior professional biophysicist, was involved in the 2001 cleanup of the anthrax site in Washington and helped develop new criteria for future cleanups. With the appointment, Canter will lead critical communications for BioNeutral Group with government authorities.

"We welcome Dr. Canter to BioNeutral Group," Stephen Browand, BioNeutral Group president and chief executive, said in a statement.

"Her expertise in bioterrorism and homeland security issues will certainly play a vital role in opening the communication with officials within (the Department of) Homeland Security."
