SOCOM contracts LM for logistics support

GAITHERSBURG, Md., March 4 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has been contracted to provide the U.S. Special Operations Command with mission-critical logistics support.

The Special Operations Command awarded U.S. company Lockheed Martin a Special Operations Forces Support Activity Contractor Logistics Support contract.

As part of the 10-year contract, worth as much as $5 billion if all options are exercised, Lockheed Martin will provide maintenance services on aircraft, ground vehicles and weaponry, among other equipment, and support SOCOM logistics. Officials said the contract also includes provisions for Lockheed Martin to upgrade SOCOM's information technology infrastructure and networks.

"We appreciate the vital role of this support to the men and women of the Special Operations Command and to our nation," Linda Gooden, Lockheed Martin Information Systems and Global Services executive vice president, said in a statement.

"We are committed to providing those war fighters with the support and services they need and honored to be aiding their crucial missions."
