MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- BAE Systems announced the advancement of its XM1203 Non-Line-of-Sight Cannon prototype with a successful test at a U.S. Army installation.
British company BAE said it marked a milestone in the development of the XM1203 NLOS Cannon with a successful test firing of Excalibur simulation rounds, a simulation of the 155mm extended-range artillery projectile.
The Excalibur simulation rounds are designed to exact weight specifications of actual Excalibur rounds and were used to better measure the NLOS cannon prototype's capabilities. The NLOS cannon test firing "verified the proper fit, function and stable flight necessary," the company said in a release.
"The firing of these test rounds from the NLOS cannon is the next step in proving the NLOS cannon will have the capability to execute a battlefield mission using precision fire munitions," Mark Signorelli, BAE Systems vice president of Army programs, said in a statement.
"This is a significant achievement for our soldiers and the Future Combat Systems program."
