British contract LHTEC for Lynx engines

ANAHEIM, Calif., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- The British Ministry of Defense has contracted the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Co. to replace Mk.9T Lynx helicopter-engine technologies.

LHTEC, a Rolls-Royce and Honeywell joint venture, was awarded the contract to provide the British Defense Ministry with its CTS800 engines. The contract is part of an effort by the British army to replace the current Rolls-Royce Gem engines powering the fleet of Lynx helicopters with new CTS800 engines.

Under the two-year deal, LHTEC will supply 27 of its CTS800 engines along with spare parts.

"Rolls-Royce has powered Lynx helicopters for more than 30 years," Ken Roberts, Rolls-Royce helicopter president and LHTEC board member, said in a statement.

"This CTS800 upgrade will provide real benefits to the Ministry of Defense."
