New intell czar beefs up press office

WASHINGTON, March 29 (UPI) -- The new director of national intelligence, or DNI, is beefing up his public affairs office, adding two new media spokesmen.

A statement this week from the office of newly confirmed DNI Michael McConnell said William "Trey" Brown, a public affairs officer for the U.S. Navy, would be joining the DNI press office as a spokesman.

Brown arrives just in time to fill in behind the DNI's outgoing Chief of Media Relations Carl Kropf, who moved to become spokesman for the National Counter-Terrorism Center last week.

"We're in the process of adding two additional spokespeople and I'll be sure to introduce them as soon as they're on board," wrote DNI Public Affairs Director Chad Kolton in an e-mail to reporters.

According to McConnell's office, Brown is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate whose military career began as a Navy aviator before he returned to the academy as a teacher.

At the Navy's Office of the Chief of Information, he was an on-the-record spokesman -- including spokesman for the director of naval intelligence.

"Trey comes with excellent reviews from not only his (Department of Defense) superiors, but from the reporters with whom he worked as well," wrote Kolton.
