Northrop to expand Pentagon DKO portal

WASHINGTON, March 13 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman says a task order received this week will help to greatly expand the U.S. military's Defense Knowledge Online (DKO) Web portal.

Northrop announced Tuesday that its team had received an order with a $267 million ceiling that will increase the user base of the ambitious DKO system from fewer than 2 million to as many as 8 million users.

The DKO is a project to combine multiple defense Web portals into one secure system for use by Department of Defense personnel and other authorized users. The project is one of the largest portal projects ever undertaken by the federal government and is being designed to improve coordination and communications throughout the military and at the same time reduce overall costs.

"Our team brings a wealth of experience with DKO's foundation and every major said Northrop Vice President Catherine Kuenzel.

The team, which also includes CISCO Systems, ATT, SAIC, Cherry Roads Technologies and other tech firms, will carry out the work in the Washington, D.C., area as well as Southwest Asia under a one-year task order that includes four six-month options. The order covers full systems integration, technology and maintenance as part of the overall user expansion.
