General Dynamics gets Army contract

FAIRFAX, Va., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- General Dynamics has received a contract to develop command-post exercises for the U.S. Army's training system for reservists and the National Guard.

The $4.9 million pact announced Tuesday is a follow-up contract for General Dynamics Information Technology division in Fairfax and its support of the U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC) 75th Battle Command Training Division.

General Dynamics will support computer-based simulations to train command staff.

"The USARC Training Divisions are critical to developing force-readiness against the global war on terror," said General Dynamics Senior Vice President Zannie Smith.

"We are proud to support the 75th BCTD, providing realistic and operation-specific training to the Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard."

The Army last fall reorganized its training structure for reservists by placing its five training divisions under new commands. The 75th was given primary responsibility for the command-staff training functions of all of the training divisions and reports directly to the Army Reserve Command at Fort McPherson, Ga.

The changeover began in 2006 and is to be completed by the end of 2007.

General Dynamics said the company would be working directly with the individual 75th training brigades based in Texas, Alabama, California, New Jersey and Illinois.
