Hezbollah receiving missiles

JERUSALEM, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Hezbollah in Lebanon has been receiving missiles and anti-tank weapons from Iran and Syria over the past four months, according to a newspaper report.

The Jerusalem Post, quoting Israeli intelligence sources, reported earlier this week the weaponry was mostly shipped by convoy at night to Lebanon from Syria.

Among the shipments were anti-tank missles, short-range missiles, anti-aircraft missiles and Fajr and Zelzal missiles made in Iran.

Hezbollah has a political wing in the Lebanese government as well as its armed militia, which fought a 34-day war against Israel last summer. During that period, it fired some 4,000 Katyusha rockets into northern Israel.

Intelligence sources said they believed Hezbollah may use the current political instability in Lebanon as an excuse for new attacks against Israel -- particularly attempts to shoot down Israeli aircraft which overfly southern Lebanon, the newspaper said.

The United Nations and the Lebanese army have troops in southern Lebanon, forcing Hezbollah to conceal its weapons, but Israeli intelligence does not believe it seriously hinders the organization.
