Two top officials left DHS last week

WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Two senior officials -- the head of the international office and the deputy chief of staff -- finished at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security last week.

Chad Boudreaux finished last week as Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff's deputy chief of staff. A statement from Chertoff called him "a wise and trusted counselor, who has provided critical thinking, energy and leadership to many of the department's highest priorities."

Chertoff said Boudreaux had been "instrumental in advancing the department's border and immigration security agenda," helping to formulate a comprehensive strategy, and working closely with key law enforcement agencies both inside the department and elsewhere.

"I will miss Chad personally and professionally, and wish him well in his future endeavors," concluded Chertoff.

Also leaving last week was Ambassador Cresencio "Cris" Arcos, the department's assistant secretary for international affairs. In a separate statement, Chertoff called Arcos "an extraordinary ambassador for the department," who had "helped to fortify international partnerships."

"I have relied on Cris for his steady counsel, impeccable diplomacy and extensive knowledge of foreign affairs," said Chertoff, praising Arcos' role in moving forward the North American Security and Prosperity Partnership with Mexico and Canada.
