The envisaged package includes completion of several infrastructure, roads, bridges and railway projects, according to an External Affairs Ministry spokesman speaking on condition of anonymity.

Singh told Koirala that India was committed to Nepal overcoming its economic turmoil and would provide both short-term and long-term assistance.

During the 40 minute meeting Koirala thanked Singh's government for supporting the restoration of Nepal's democracy as he reaffirmed the two nations' strong traditional bilateral ties.

Singh in turn praised Koirala for heading a successful democratic movement.
