The Anatolian Times reported on May 9 that Larijani spoke to journalists at Esenboga Airport. During his presentation Larijani emphasized Iran and Turkey's long historical relations and cooperation and stressed that the two nations have many common interests.

Larijani also spoke to reporters about the burgeoning crisis over Iran's nuclear energy program, telling them that Iran was seeking a peaceful resolution of the crisis. The Iranian government believes that that the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency is the correct forum for ending the disagreement and not the U.N. Security Council. But he also warned Iran would not cooperate with the IAEA if U.S. pressure to bring the issue before the United Nations Security Council were successful.

Larijani said Iran currently adheres to the conditions of the Non-Proliferation Treaty but will reconsider its continuing participation if the issue is brought before the Security Council.

Turkish National Security Council Secretary General Yigit Alpogan invited Larijani, who is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.
