Eoyang comes to Negroponte's staff from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., where he was associate provost for executive education.

His other federal jobs have included stints at the White House Office of Science and Technology, and running training for the Federal Aviation Administration and NASA.

Now he will be assistant deputy director of national intelligence for education and training and chancellor of the National Intelligence University -- effectively the collected higher educational institutions of the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies with a small chancellor's office and curriculum development team perched atop them.

As chancellor, Eoyang "will help to build cooperative relationships" with existing "schools, centers, and civilian institutions," said the statement, "and develop an ... intelligence professional education and development program" for all the nation's 16 agencies.

Prior to his federal service, Eoyang was employed by the McDonnell-Douglas Astronautics Company in Huntington Beach, Calif. He received his BS in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his MBA from the Harvard Business School, and his PhD from Stanford University.
