Iran and Sudan to coordinate media efforts

TEHRAN, April 27 (UPI) -- The official Iranian and Sudanese news agencies are tipped for closer cooperation to counter so-called U.S. meia domination.

Ahmad Khademolmelleh, managing director of Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency, said during a meeting with Sudan News Agency head Mohamed Hatem Soliman, that "despite their tremendous potentials in various areas, Muslim countries have not taken the right steps to promote the media as an effective tool of diplomacy."

Khademolmelleh said the "enemies" of Islam have "superb" media skills and used them to obfuscate the real issues of the Muslim world. The administration of U.S. President George W. Bush, he added, uses the media to press its global issue that it has the right to be the dominant global power, which affects both Iran and Sudan.

Khademolmelleh stressed that IRNA and the Sudan News Agency needed to act in concert order to counter the U.S. domination of the media.

Soliman praised expanding IRNA-SUNA cooperation and said that his agency is ready to avail itself of IRNA's expertise.
